The Monstera kokedama, the wildest kokedama
Who hasn't dreamed of having a jungle at home? If there is an indispensable element to turn your home into an urban jungle, it is undoubtedly a Monstera kokedama. With large, rib-shaped leaves and an intense green color, the kokedama Monstera will be the queen of the house and will bring a wild touch to any room.
Monstera deliciosa is the variant we work with at Omotesandō Plants and is a climbing plant endemic to the tropical rainforests of Central America. Despite coming from far away, it is a plant that has become extremely popular because of its wild appearance and its enormous decorative power - it has a lot of presence! In fact, the Monstera Deliciosa was an interior design classic in the 1970s, but, as you can imagine, some things never go out of style.
A Monstera kokedama does not require a lot of care, but it is important to follow certain guidelines so that our kokedama grows healthy and fills every corner of the house with green color. Below, we leave you a small guide.
Where should I place the Monstera kokedama?
Remember that it is a tropical plant, so it is used to grow in rather shady and humid spaces. However, it can live perfectly well indoors, as long as the temperature does not drop too much and stays between 20 and 25 ºC. It is important to protect it from drafts or heat sources, such as an air conditioner or radiator, especially because they dry out the environment and can lower the humidity levels of the room. If you think there is too little, you can place a glass or two of water near the plant to increase the humidity in the room.
How and when do I water the kokedama Monstera?
To know when to water our kokedama, it is best to be guided by the weight of the plant. If it is very light, it means that it is time to water it. Keep in mind that the frequency of watering will vary depending on the season. As a guideline, it is recommended to water it once a week in winter and once every five days in summer.
The size of its leaves often causes dust to accumulate on its surface. It is important to clean them from time to time with a damp cloth to remove the dust so that the leaves can breathe and photosynthesize. In fact, you can also occasionally pamper your kokedama and give it some extra care by spraying water on the leaves to simulate a rain, as if it were in the jungle itself!
